Hi Art: There is a snares off snare in GPO4, it is "A4" in "basic orchestral percussion". I just checked it. The problem has been, in notation mode, I have not been able to use "basic orchestral percussion" nor " percussion toys" due to the well known percussion mapping problems in finale. Perhaps you can figure it out, or Michael B can offer advice. There are a bunch of sounds in the 2 percussion patches above I have wanted to use, but I have been unable to get them to work in notation mode.

Your question has peaked my interest in revisiting this issue, perhaps I'll try again. I would love to use the jingle bells, as I remember, using the percussion patches, I could get maybe 2 or 3 to work, the rest there is no sound.

I just tested "basic orchestral percussion" usingGPO4, using the player, I found 26 sounds, 2 of which were snare off snares, A-4, and Ab-4. Of the 26 using the notation version, I was able to get 13 sounds, 2 cymbal, 2 triangles, 3 snares, tam tam, 2 gongs, 3 bass drums. I have always wanted to use "percussion toys", but have had less success with those than with 'basic orchestral percussion", I don't know why, but I wish I could.

Hello Art and steve,

As I explained in answer to Kevin's previous thread, I gave up using the Finale Drum Maps many, many moons ago. Instead I use standard staves, clefs and notes for all my percussion. with this method I am able to use any percussion sound with certainty and ease. I have none of the frustrations and problems reported in the forums by users struggling with the infamous Finale maps.

When I have more time following the Christmas Community Project, I'll make this my next 'Michael Memo'.

I have a screenshot and corresponding audio(mp3) file of examples using the GPO 4 Basic Orchestral Percussion, Percussion Toys and the JaBB 3 Handclaps and Fingersnaps. Steve, I have also included the sleigh bells which you mentioned you would particularly like to use.

Click on the image for full size. Press 'Escape' to return here.

Finale Percussion MP3 Of The Percussion Shown

I understand that some people need a score with standard percussion staves to send to industry people. In this case, it would take very little effort to change the percussion stave of the playback score to single line percussion staves to send and keep the playback score.

My method may not be for everyone and I'm sure there are people who manage with Finale's maps. However, my method works for me; I have none of the problems reported by so many people and am able to use all of Garritan percussion with ease and certainty.

I hope this is of some help. :)

King freeze: note A4--is that a keyboard reference? Which note would that be in GPO4 basic orchestra percussion in the aria player?

Michael: any suggestions on a snare drum with snares off sound, possibly a good substitute sound?

Thanks!

Thank you, Michael. I just used the document setup wizard, and created the regular staves I get when using either "toys" or "basic orch percussion", both staves played exactly the same 13 sounds. It would be nice to use them, but I gave up on it sometime ago, so it's unimportant to me. I thought I'd give it a test because of Art's query. Good luck. Maybe I'll look again later, as I have shows to play this weekend.

yes Art, it's a keyboard reference. Open the aria player, choose 'basic orchestral percussion" in one of the slots, choose that slot, and you'll see the keyboard, and be able to see and hear the 26 sounds laid out on the keyboard.
