help on vibrato - sustain

Postby pking73 » Mon May 25, 2015 6:17 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to using Finale and GPO in general.

I wrote a little tune in Finale with strings in it. They sound fine except that the vibrato that comes with the sustain of tones is always the same. Every violins etc. vibrate at the same time!! How can I change this in Finale?

Thank you!

Erick

Hi Erick,

Sadly, the vibrato with all strings in GPO4 is a recorded one within the samples.
It means that it can't be changed.
It was one of the main feature requests for GPO5 in the thread "Tell me what you want."
I never understood why it wasn't included in GPO4.
Perhaps they couldn't find string players who could play without vibrato! It seems to be ubiquitous.

Regards,
John.

Hi Erick.
Sadly, John's reply is 100% true.
You can still introduce a bit of variation in your string parts altering a bit the pitch of every instance and varying the starting point of each note.
This will not change the vibrato speed, but it will avoid your violins to sound like a cheap transistor organ — at least one that has built in vibrato.
I know it is a tricky and annoying process in Finale, but it is worth it.
Hope it helps.
