GPO5 - Tell Me What you Want, What You Really Really Want

Well, I guess I shouldn't keep waiting for my email... Perhaps it's a Canada-US thing, or maybe my invite was lost in the (e)mail... who knows? Either way, I'm not actually bothered by it.


There is an upgrade pathway on the site, so I will take that.

No, I'm not sure what dictates whether one gets an e-mail. I haven't had one either.

But I did cancel my order with Time & Space and completed the process direct via the web service. I downloaded, it takes a little time for four and a half Gigs, and installed GPO5 yesterday. Allow a little more time for installation too.

I'm still finding my way around. I did notice that, so far, there isn't a pdf manual, but it is there as an html help file.

So far so fine.

I did not receive an email notice either, though I am a registered customer. They indicated they would be sending notices out at release. Too bad about the difficulty of getting out serial numbers to Time & Space. Sounds like Make Music needs to get get their act together.

I see that in GPO5 some samples have a stereo stage setting, as in GPO4, and some do not. If this is an oversight, it's huge.

MM's response to my support ticket on this issue:

I did want to let you know that your case had been put in a researching status pending investigation of this issue. Currently, I have checked with our Developers and they agree that this controller message should be there. I am now awaiting their updated information to see if this is something that will be resolved in the future, or if they have other suggested workarounds.

With the additional oversight concerning the GPO5Prefs.xml file, I'm guessing an update will be provided. I hope an update fixes both errors.

The loop problem I found in GPO4 with the oboe d'amore on notes B3 and C4 is still there in GPO5 despite my reporting it more than a year ago. There's a click as the loop repeats after about three seconds on the non-legato version.

I've been browsing the various xml files and have discovered there are more than half a dozen instruments in the 'master' xml file that aren't implemented. The samples are there and also sfz files but they didn't 'make it' to the release.

It'll be interesting to see whether they ever get implemented.

There's also some code for 'cross fading' in one of the woodwind sfz files, but not used as far as I can tell, so far.

Meanwhile I'll try to get a fix for the oboe d'amore sorted.
It's just the start and end points, of the specified loop, don't match up on one sample.
If I fix it, I'll post the amended sfz file.

Well said John! I would also like to say that Garritan has wonderful products. I own several. I do sometimes think that Makemusic could do a better job of handling their management, development and promotion of the Garritan line of software. I also think that someone from Makemusic could occasionally participate in the forums. Just my thoughts.
