Number of Staves per Part

In the note element we can specify

, etc.

But do we declare the number of staves that are in a part anywhere? If I want to know how many staves are in a part, do I need to read all of the music data looking for the largest

value, or can we find it somewhere else?

I see now that the number of staves is specified within each measure:

Sure, you can ask MusicXML questions here - especially about how MusicXML works with Finale or our Dolet for Sibelius plug-in. The W3C group discussion is focused more on future versions of MusicXML and music notation formats.
