Multiple Clefs on a Single Staff - Revisited

Postby Evan Brooks » Fri Feb 12, 2016 1:43 am

Hi Michael,

A few years back we discussed the use cases for having more than one Clef declared on a staff. You pointed me to the Fig. 8 example of Debussy in the attached file. Could you please tell me how the measure in question, or something similar, would be represented in actual MusicXML? I'm not sure how to show the new clef affecting only a single note in the measure, when at the same time and on the same staff, other notes are being written based on the original clef. Your interpretation of this representation in MusicXML would be most appreciated, so I can know what to look for when reading MusicXML files. Thanks in advance.

Hi Evan,

Use the additional attribute of the clef element for this: e.g. <clef additional="yes">. I am not sure if any software is currently implementing this feature. That is part of why the documentation is a bit muddled with respect to how you position the clef in the non-standard position, and how to interpret the results.
