Finale 2011 not importing Sharpeye .xml files

Postby Barb » Mon Nov 09, 2015 2:13 pm

Equipment: Finale 2011b, Windows 10 home

Here's the problem: Out of the blue, Finale no longer wants to import Sharpeye 2.68-created XML files. The error message I'm getting: xml setup error: String Index out of range: -1. From suggestions, I've updated Java and installed the Dolet 6.5 plug-in, but these did not help. A lot of my Finale work involves creating sound files from printed music my private students are learning. At the moment, I'm stymied until this is solved.

Does anyone out there know what might be going on, and how to fix it?

Thanks!

Barb

Hej Barb

If you add an example file, then a lot of people can check it.

Check the encoding - you can do it by loading the xml-file in Notepad. Is it
CodePage, Utf8, Utf16 ... ? You may save it as Utf8 and test
(if the xml-file contains "encoding="UTF-8"").

Well, all righty then, one xml file coming up -- it's an alto and tenor sax duet that's destined to be a sound file so the students involved can learn it quicker.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to check this!

Your file works fine here. I have WIN8, Finale Songwriter 2012. Your file is ANSI, in the file UTF8 is specified. Works also with MuseScore and my MusicXML player.

Tried saving the file as UTF8 - but then Finale 2012 reported "Ungültiger Dataityp von Datei ...". The file still works fine with MuseScore and my MusicXML-player. Strange.

Could WIN10 be the problem? Did you try to save the file in different formats?

A comment: You may even try MidiAndMusicXmlPlayer. Available at programfabriken.com. Ignore the warning about "unknown publisher". This should work at WIN10.

I attached the file after loading and saving the file with Finale 2012.

Once you install the Dolet plug-in, make sure you import the MusicXML file from the Plug-ins menu, not from the File menu or the Launch Window. In other words, go to the Plug-ins menu, the MusicXML submenu, and select the Import MusicXML... item.

That should fix the problem - if not, please let us know.
