Postby Renato Caruso » Tue Oct 27, 2015 10:28 am

Hello everyone,
I'm new to MusicXML , a year that we 've been toying around , I state to have both skills from programmer musician (conservatory classical guitar ) , use Sibelius First . What software can I use to write code for MusicXML ? I downloaded Dolet but does not go , I would not be alone for Sibelius and Sibelius First to . If anything can help me to recommend a software to write code and see it ? thanks and hope in this new experience to contribute.

Sorry for my language :) :D

Hello Renato,

By writing code, do you mean creating a MusicXML file from a music notation program? There's a long list of MusicXML programs at http://www.musicxml.com/software. If you search for "free" you will find over 25 programs, including Finale NotePad and MuseScore.

Sibelius First added support for writing MusicXML files in version 7. Plugins only work with the full version of Sibelius, not Sibelius First.

yes, I want to write code xml side programmer , you can then see from the score, that is, I really want to write lines of code:

Code: Select all
<note>
       <pitch>
           <step>G</step>
           <octave>4</octave>
       </pitch>
       < !--   ...  -->
   </note>

I installed music score , could not find the opportunity to write xml code , I alone can import and export, and with that I could do so already by sibelius first , there is a way to write xml code and view it with the same software or do I write code with another editor like xml spy and then import them with Sibelius ?
thank you :)

Sure, you can use an XML editor like XML Spy or oXygen to manually write MusicXML files, or write your own program to create MusicXML files. MusicXML is a variant of XML, and there are XML reading and writing libraries in just about every programming environment available today.

but, can i open my "Hello World!" with Oxygen? have i to get the XSLT and DTD? Or can i open my code xml with sibelius?

in practice , I can open my file.xml oxygen directly from the program , resulting in a meal xslt , that I can see right notes , staff , etc. from oxygen ? or do I write the file in oxygen and then open it in Sibelius ?
thank you and excuse me but we still work on it :)

Yes, write in oxygen, open in Sibelius when ready.

Keep in mind that MusicXML isn't designed to be typed by hand.

The best way to encode sheet music as MusicXML is to create a score with a score-editor (Finale, Sibelius, MuseScore, ...) and export to MusicXML. If you want to change anything in the resulting xml file you can open it in oxygen and start adding/changing the file.
