Note head and whole/half

Postby Pierre Mardon » Fri Jul 17, 2015 9:40 am

Hi there !
This is my first post so let me briefly introduce myself :
Pierre Mardon, CTO @ Newzik ( http://newzik.com ).

We are working on our MusicXML compliance, so I may come with several (hopefully) accurate questions to bother you :)

My first one is :

For a note with a specific notehead like "x" or "slash", does the type of the note affect the way it should be displayed ?

Specifically :
1- should notehead "x" with type "half" be circled even if the notehead is not "circle-x" ?
2- should notehead "slash" with type "whole" be displayed as a diamond ?

I saw a soft (the "S" one) exporting MusicXML this way and rendering how I described it, that's why I ask !

Thanks in advance !

Hi Pierre,

Welcome! The notehead should match the appearance that you see in the score. So if the x is circled, it should be exported as circle-x, not x, no matter what the note type. If you see an x notehead, it should be displayed as an x, not a circled x, with any note type. If you see a slash notehead, it should be displayed as a slash, not a diamond, no matter what the note type. I hope that helps!
