question about creating a simple application

Postby john » Tue Mar 24, 2015 5:40 am

Hi, I would like to build a simple application for a college assignment. I want to have a simple user interface where the user can set some basic parameters and input notes onto the screen. I would like the inputted music to be converted into a form (such as MusicXML) where it can then be sent to to something like JFugue to be interpreted as sound.

So I think I require an editor of some kind, the means to convert this to MusicXML and the ability to have the resulting 'score' played back to the user.

I have fairly modest ambitions for this project and possess an intermediate knowledge of programming (mainly in Java, although I don't necessarily want to restrict myself to Java).

If what I'm asking makes or nearly makes some sense I would appreciate some advice.

The type of music I'd want to write would be traditional tunes only requiring one part to represent a single melody line.

Hi John,

What you are proposing is by no means simple! Especially if you want to implement a graphical user interface allowing the user to place notes on a stave. You could consider using a simple textual description of the music like Lilypond or Opusmodus (opusmodus.com) and convert that to MusicXML, which would be considerably less difficult. You could then use the SeeScore SDK (www.seescore.co.uk/developers) to visualise the MusicXML.

Hi John,

Maybe you can give a try to MyScript Music SDK or Cloud solution.

here a link with a video

http://myscript.com/myscript-music-soft ... pment-kit/

Here you can find the supported symbols
http://myscript.com/technology/#music

I will bring the demo application (Android tablet) of this SDK to the Musikmess if you want to play or see it.

You can play using your browser at the following link.

Cheers,
