Jianpu clef in Finale NotePad 2012

Postby Evan Brooks » Sun Oct 12, 2014 3:32 pm

The MusicXML 3.0 XSD documentation states that:

"Unlike TAB, a jianpu sign does not correspond to a visual clef notation."

Yet Finale NotePad 2012 imports a jianpu clef as a treble clef symbol.

Does Finale NotePad 2012 not support MusicXML 3.0 (in which case it is ignoring a jianpu clef), or is this a bug in its MusicXML implementation? I would have expected to see no clef symbol at all if it was compliant.

Hi Evan,

Finale currently doesn't support jianpu notation directly, so the MusicXML import ignores it and supplies a default clef. This is reasonable behavior for programs that don't support a particular feature. If a program didn't support guitar tablature, for instance, it would use normal staff notation and a default clef. Supplying no clef would make the notation that is imported less useful.
