Re: Garritan and Yamaha Motif

John: Thank you for responding. I was hoping to use a laptop. So are you saying that would not work? I thought a a new powerful laptop with USB 3.0 would be OK. I could connect an external USB Sound Card to bypass the internal one. Would a Mac Book with a Thunderbolt connect be better? I see many o...

Re: Garritan and Yamaha Motif

Hi Motif, Welcome to the forum. Two issues come to mind. Firstly, that MIDI via USB has some inbuilt latency and jitter. This means that the keystrokes from the Motif can take a few milliseconds to arrive in the PC (latency) and that the delay is irregular (jitter). This is due to master/slave relat...

Re: Garritan Abbey Road Studios CFX Concert Grand Piano is h

Unfortunately there is no half pedaling / proportional pedaling. ( note from the Garritan Blog "Currently half-pedaling is slated for a future update.") IMHO this is an unwelcome omission, and surprising, given the "flagship" status of Yamaha's CFX. Many may agree that the use o...

Re: Violins bowing for Ravel's Bolero 2 themes and ostinato

Hello Fred,

If you go to the IMSLP and search "ravel bolero" you will find that, as well as the full score, there is a set of parts available. A quick look at the violins I revealed that there is some bowing shown there. Otherwise I concur with Michael.

Regards,
John.

Re: Researching Garritan IO: 64-bit and Aria instance questi

Dave, It sounds as if you will use the sample library in much the same way as I do. I make backing tracks for my wife, an operatic mezzo, for rehearsal and performance. From pre-baroque to modern. I create from score using Finale then finish them off in Sonar. I find myself using GPO4 almost exclusi...

Re: Researching Garritan IO: 64-bit and Aria instance questi

Hello all. This is my first post to your forum. Hi Dave, Welcome to the forum. I've been researching orchestral VSTis for several weeks now, and it appears that IO is perfect for what I need. (My wife and I direct the music program in our church.) I did a quick read of both the IO and Aria User's G...

Re: Assigning Keyswitches

Hi MusicalHart, It's not completely true that keyswitches cannot be re-assigned. It's just not easy to do without some reprogramming of the Key Switch sfz files. It can only be done if you understand the computer language (sfz format) which defines how the samples are played. If you do, then you hav...

Re: What would you like to see next Garritan product be?

How eloquently you have phrased it, Daniel. An advanced Garritan String Library is definitely top of my request list. Choir to follow. I wouldn't mind if it came as a set of packages where the lesser used articulations could be added as funds allowed. (Living off a pension somewhat restricts my purc...

Re: Best Sequencer for this kind of work?

Hi HLM001, Now the kit that can score out the midi as its heard, with all the assigned cc#'s and save me exporting midi files over and hacking away in a scoring program will get my bucks any day! Personally, I don't think such a program exists ... yet. One either gets all the notation details or the...

Re: Getting Better Legato

Hi Randy, You're most welcome Bayswater That's right. As the text and images show on p.34 of the GPO manual: http://rbowser.tripod.com/gpo-manual-legato.jpg I really hate that diagram. It's very simplistic. It doesn't really show what's happening at all. For a start where are the attack portions of ...
