Re: LilyPond/MusicXML Percussion Clef Interpretation Conflic

I agree. I hope someone can let the folks at LilyPond know about this. While you are adding the prohibition against "pitch" elements on a percussion staff, you might want to correct the last line of the Percussion page in the MusicXML tutorial online at: http://www.musicxml.com/tutorial/pe...

Re: Multiple Clefs

An afterthought to the issue of multiple simultaneous clefs: How should one interpret the clef to use to render any notes that come after multiple simultaneous clefs on a staff when the clefs are not all the same? Perhaps this situation never happens, but I am not familiar with the circumstances tha...

Multiple Clefs

Hi Michael, The possibility of having multiple clefs on a single staff at the beginning of a measure is described and supported by the "additional" property of the Clef element as follows: "Sometimes clefs are added to the staff in non-standard line positions, either to indicate cue p...

Re: LilyPond/MusicXML Percussion Clef Interpretation Conflic

Hi Michael, Thank you so much for your reply. What I am taking from it is that ALL notes written to a staff with percussion clef should be written using an "unpitched" element, rather than a "pitch" element. This makes great sense, but I don't think the documentation really state...

Jianpu clef in Finale NotePad 2012

The MusicXML 3.0 XSD documentation states that: "Unlike TAB, a jianpu sign does not correspond to a visual clef notation." Yet Finale NotePad 2012 imports a jianpu clef as a treble clef symbol. Does Finale NotePad 2012 not support MusicXML 3.0 (in which case it is ignoring a jianpu clef), ...

LilyPond/MusicXML Percussion Clef Interpretation Conflict

It appears that LilyPond's MusicXML exporter interprets a C4 with a Percussion Clef as being drawn on the center staff line of a 5-line staff. The MusicXML tutorial documentation (but not the XSD or DTD) states that "Percussion clef is treated like treble clef when determining the display-step ...

Re: Documentation error: Sign element

After some thought, it appears that the clef line element documentation needs even further clarification. For example: (1) The default clef line for a TAB clef on a 6-line staff is 5. Why is this? Does this mean that the default clef line for a TAB clef on a 4-line staff (for a 4-stringed instrument...

Documentation error: Sign element

The online documentation for the sign element at: http://www.finalemusic.com/UserManuals/MusicXML/Content/EL-MusicXML-sign.htm shows an F Clef in its normal position, with the MusicXML code for it being: <Clef> <Sign>F</Sign> <Line>2</Line> </Clef> However, it should actually say: <Clef> <Sign>F</Si...

Fractional Numerators in Time Signatures in 3.0

Back in 2002, Michael Good posted that: MusicXML can handle fractional time signatures. To use the example of three-and-two-thirds quarter time: <time> <beats>3</beats> <beat-type>4</beat-type> <beats>2/3</beats> <beat-type>4</beat-type> </time> (See: https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected].shsu.ed...

xsd documentation questions/corrections

The musicxml.xsd for MusicXML 3.0 states, in the documentation for the complexType "interchangeable", that "...The parentheses attribute value is yes by default." However, there does not appear to be a parentheses attribute in the "interchangeable" complexType. There is...
