Re: How to specify a score revision

There is indeed no standardized way to specify revisions with MusicXML 3.0. Any addition like this would need to be discussed at the W3C Music Notation Community Group, which is driving the development of future MusicXML versions.

Re: illogical <forward> element in samples

Hi James, You'll see that in cross-staff piano music. It shows that there is no music in the voice associated with the top staff of the piano part in that measure, but that there is no visible rest either. As Mogens mentioned, the 32 forward followed by the 32 back brings you to the start of the mea...

Re: Finale 2011 not importing Sharpeye .xml files

Once you install the Dolet plug-in, make sure you import the MusicXML file from the Plug-ins menu, not from the File menu or the Launch Window. In other words, go to the Plug-ins menu, the MusicXML submenu, and select the Import MusicXML... item. That should fix the problem - if not, please let us k...

Re: write code music xml

Sure, you can use an XML editor like XML Spy or oXygen to manually write MusicXML files, or write your own program to create MusicXML files. MusicXML is a variant of XML, and there are XML reading and writing libraries in just about every programming environment available today.

Re: Dolet 6.4 Sibelius - hidden hairpins

In MusicXML 3.0, dynamics can be hidden when used with the notations element (attached to a note), but not within a direction (attached to a measure). The Dolet plug-in uses the direction element for exporting dynamics and I would guess that Sibelius's built-in MusicXML export is doing the same. You...

Re: write code music xml

Hello Renato, By writing code, do you mean creating a MusicXML file from a music notation program? There's a long list of MusicXML programs at http://www.musicxml.com/software . If you search for "free" you will find over 25 programs, including Finale NotePad and MuseScore. Sibelius First ...

Re: How to convert partwise xml to timewise xml?

It's been a while since I've looked at this as we test with internal or payware tools, but I think Saxon might work for this. If you're using the timewise format, be sure to join the W3C Music Notation Community Group to make that known. The timewise format hasn't had much use so far. If that's chan...

Re: Copy & Paste Contents

I find it a lot easier to do MusicXML testing in an XML-aware text editor that automatically handles XML syntax, Unicode encodings, and the like. oXygen Developer is a good cross-platform product and XMLSpy is good for Windows. Most of today's development environments also have XML support. One reas...

Re: Miscellaneous and miscellaneous-field

Hi Vincent, Thank you for pointing this out. The example is incorrect. There is no text content in a miscellaneous element. The miscellaneous element contains zero or more miscellaneous-field elements, and those are the elements that contain text content along with a required name attribute. Sorry a...

Re: SmartScore to Finale 2014 MusicXML Pedal Problem

Hello Earl, I also looked at the file and Adrian is correct that there are no pedal marks in it. You don't have to take our word for it. You can open the XML file in any text editor and search for "pedal". You won't find anything in the attached file. Might you be opening the SmartScore fi...
