Re: Getting Better Legato

Hello Randy and Bayswater , Some clarification (I hope) for sustaining instruments, not percussive ones. At least this is my view from examining the structure of many Garritan .sfz files. I hope I'll be corrected by someone from MakeMusic if my analysis is incorrect. What occurs when ARIA detects th...

Re: GPO4 & Program Change Messages

Thanks for the informative post, John - Of course I remember how you produce tracks for your talented wife. I've always admired that work you do for her. And even though I know you've told me before how you start with already recorded MIDI tracks, I really hadn't thought through what the process wo...

Re: GPO4 & Program Change Messages

This concept of wanting to use ARIA and Garritan Libraries for playing General MIDI files is new to me. I don't recall much if any discussion on the topic over the 8 years I've been online discussing Garritan. I'm not sure if I'm understanding why this would be attempted--? - Is it just to playback...

Re: GPO4 & Program Change Messages

Much easier and far lower CPU/RAM loading etc. is simply to look at the tracks / channels in the MIDI file and substitute the required instrument with the GPO (or JABB, COMB, IO) equivalent into the appropriate ARIA slot. I do that quite a lot for commercial backing tracks I occasionally need to use...

Re: Something Different- an "instant" composer.

Interesting Kevin,

I seem to recall that Mozart made a similar chart with beginnings, middle bits and endings that you could do similar composition tricks with. I know I had a copy, many years ago, but can I find it?

Regards,
John.

Re: Studio monitors - acoustics and myths.

For anyone trying to set up a home recording studio one of the best places (IMHO) to visit is Ethan Winer's own site http://ethanwiner.com and his company's site http://realtraps.com/art_basics.htm . Ethan debunks a lot of audio myths (like cables need to be "burned in") and gives some inf...

Re: Convolution ~ Garritan In A DAW ~ Altiverb or Vienna MIR

Thanks Randy, It's very helpful to have your views on SIR. Yes, the original SIR is still available amazingly for FREE with loads of IR files. SIR2 seems to go further and gives a latency free, 32/64 bit version, with a seemingly greater control, for a not unreasonable price IMHO of 189 dollars or 1...

Re: Convolution ~ Garritan In A DAW ~ Altiverb or Vienna MIR

How many, I wonder, have tried the very well reviewed SIR2? Mike Senior of Sound on Sound magazine certainly seemed to like it when he reviewed it briefly back in August '08. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug08/articles/pif_0808.htm http://media.soundonsound.com/sos/aug08/images/PIF_Aug_03.jpg As ...

Re: IO Plus GPO = Icing on the cake?

I endorse Randy's opinion 100%. He's captured it in a nutshell.

I find myself using GPO most of the time for the music I produce and occasionally dipping into IO for some 'special effects'. But then I learnt on GPO, not the other way round. So maybe it's a matter of familiarity.

Re: Welcome to our new forum!

Speaking of textures, I'm looking for a resource that will provide orchestral scores for free. I need to do some reviewing (for writing score formats), and I'm wondering if there's a source out there to just peruse scores without having to pay (much). Starkman Hi Starkman, and welcome to the new for...
