Re: proper use of <wavy-line>

Hi Michael, I would like to re-open this subject of discussion, but limit it to the rendered interpretation of wavy-lines based on where they are listed in the MusicXML data. Please see the attached file (from the LilyPond test suite), and ignore the unfortunate illegal MusicXML tag placements that ...

Clarify Inheritance of MusicXML Properties

Hi Michael, Is it intended that child elements "inherit" the properties of the their parent elements? For example, if a Note element has a size=large property, do any children of the Note element, such as accidentals, augmentation dots, Notations, etc, "inherit" that property and...

Hi Michael, The online documentation for "cancel-location" at: http://www.finalemusic.com/UserManuals/MusicXML/Content/ST-MusicXML-cancel-location.htm gives some very helpful graphics to clarify the positioning of the cancellation key signature with respect to the bar lines and the regular...

The online documentation for the "cancel" element at: http://www.finalemusic.com/UserManuals/MusicXML/Content/EL-MusicXML-cancel.htm states: "The optional location attribute indicates whether the cancellation appears relative to the new key signature." However, the word "whe...

Re: multiple-rest XSD documentation

Hi Michael, It's good that SMuFL specifies a code point for the maxima glyph. But the reason for my post was that MusicXML itself specifies maxima as a note type, and therefore as "its own symbol". Certainly one can (and many do) use two longas to represent a maxima, but since MusicXML 3.0...

Default staff number for Note element

Hi Michael, If a Note element is listed in a measure that has more than one staff (such as a grand staff for a piano part), but no <staff> element is contained in the Note element, is there a default staff that can be attributed to the note (such as the default of staff-number = 1 for the Clef eleme...

"note-type" documentation update in XSD

The definition of "note-type" in the 3.0 XSD says:

"The note-type type indicates the graphic note type. Values range from 256th to long."

This needs to be updated to say:

"The note-type type indicates the graphic note type. Values range from 1024th to maxima."

multiple-rest XSD documentation

The XSD documentation for "multiple-rest" says in part that: "Multiple rests may use the 1-bar / 2-bar / 4-bar rest symbols, or a single shape." Since MusicXML 3.0 supports the "maxima" note-type-value now, the documentation should reflect its use as a rest symbol of (t...
