Re: string and fret representation for guitar pieces in XML  <SOLVED>

Just create a piece with a tab instrument, and enter notes onto the tab staff. For instance, go to the Setup Wizard, select Create New Ensemble, then choose Tablature, Guitar [TAB], and press Add on the 2nd screen of the wizard. Click through the rest of the Setup Wizard and you'll have a tab staff ...

Re: string and fret representation for guitar pieces in XML  <SOLVED>

The tablature section of the MusicXML tutorial might help. Finale and many other notation editors can export tab with frets and strings. Searching for "tab" on the MusicXML software page brings up about 30 options. Sorry that the downloads aren't working on the site at the moment, includin...

Re: Multiple time signatures

I see the time-relation element was a source of confusion. That's just for interchangeable time signatures; leave it out entirely for mixed-denominator time signatures. Sorry about the confusion in the design; that was a constraint in adding interchangeable time signatures while keeping mixed-denomi...

Re: MusicXML spec website search

Thanks for pointing this out, James. The search used to work like you suggested. I suspect something broke when we changed our web host infrastructure a little while ago. I'll see if we can get this fixed so that the MusicXML search box is site-specific.

Re: Multiple time signatures

Sure. As described in the time complex type documentation , "Multiple pairs of beat and beat-type elements are used for composite time signatures with multiple denominators, such as 2/4 + 3/8." Here's an example: <time> <beats>2</beats> <beat-type>4</beat-type> <beats>3</beats> <beat-type>...

Re: Blank Title Page?

Hi Bruno, The blank-page attribute to the print element is documented in the musicxml.xsd and direction.dtd files as follows: Version 2.0 adds a blank-page attribute. This is a positive integer value that specifies the number of blank pages to insert before the current measure. It is ignored if new-...

Re: Number of Staves per Part

Sure, you can ask MusicXML questions here - especially about how MusicXML works with Finale or our Dolet for Sibelius plug-in. The W3C group discussion is focused more on future versions of MusicXML and music notation formats.

Re: "No version of Finale could be found on your system"

I see something in the Windows installer that might be causing this, but first I have to be able to replicate the old behavior to be sure that this change will actually fix the problem. I assume this is on a 64-bit Windows 10 system, not 32-bit?

Re: Dolet vs Finale's builtin MusicXML export

We release the Dolet plug-in more often, so it's more up-to-date with the latest new features and bug fixes. You can see what's new in version 6.7 compared to the version 6.6. in Finale 2014.5 at: http://www.musicxml.com/dolet-plugin/dolet-6-plugin-for-finale/version-history/ There's an overview of ...
