Re: Opus examples?

Hi Marko, You can indicate the space between two scores on the same page by using the layout features in the MusicXML files referenced by the opus. The top-system-distance element for instance specifies the distance from the top page margin to the top line of the first system on the page within the ...

Re: MusicXML 3.1 development starting soon

MusicXML 3.1 development started at the beginning of 2016. It has largely been on hold the past 4 months while I have been full-time on MusicXML development for our upcoming releases of Finale and the new SmartMusic. Work resumed yesterday. To follow MusicXML 3.1's progress, please join the W3C Musi...

Re: Differences between XSD and DTD

The color attribute is legal on the words element in both the DTD and XSD. In the XSD it's part of the color attribute group, which in turn is part of the print-style, print-style-align, and text-formatting attribute groups. The text-formatting attribute group is part of the formatted-text complex t...

Re: laissez vibrer ties

Thanks for the clarification, Evan. L.v. ties are nearly always case 1. Case 2 is usually other situations like excerpts of music or a tie at the beginning of a 2nd ending. In MusicXML 3.0 the only way to distinguish these is through the x positioning on the start and stop elements.

Re: laissez vibrer ties

Hi Evan,

Sorry for the delay in answering this, but I don't quite understand the question. What two cases of laissez vibrer ties? A pair of pictures might help me understand this better.

We have been making a lot of improvements to exporting these types of ties for the next version of Finale.

Re: Differences between XSD and DTD

Hi Matt, When you are reading MusicXML files, just validate against the XSD if that's easier. Don't worry about the DTD or the differences between the two. The XSD is more accurate. What I meant by the earlier note is that it is good to write the DOCTYPE even if you validate against the XSD. The DOC...

Re: Default value for <group-barline>  <SOLVED>

Hi Cecilio,

As with most MusicXML 3.0 elements, if it is missing the value is unknown. You can use a default that works best for your application. The recommendations in Behind Bars (pp. 518-519 in the English version, "Barring through a score") seem like a good starting place.

Re: string and fret representation for guitar pieces in XML  <SOLVED>

The downloads are now working again on the MusicXML site, so you can download our Jonatha Brooke tablature example from the Contributed Examples on the MusicXML Example Set page.
