Announce: Version 0.81 of abc2xml and 0.51 of xml2abc available

Hi folks, There's a new release of abc2xml and xml2abc available at http://home.austin.rr.com/johner/abc2xml . Not too much functionality added, I'm afraid, just a few bugs squashed, a couple of new command-line options, better handling of DTD locations, etc. See "what's new" in the documentation fo...

Re: Announce: Initial release of abc2xml and xml2abc

Thanks Michael. I should probably also include a much simpler XSL stylesheet that operates only on one MusicXML file. As soon as you start dealing with multiple files things get ugly quick, and all the clever little grouping strategies don't work. So NoteReport.xls is a little off- putting, even tho...

Announce: Initial release of abc2xml and xml2abc

Howdy folks,

http://home.austin.rr.com/johner/abc2xml

More information is available at that site. I'm only announcing here for the moment, so this is really a beta, I suppose. Please let me know if you find any problems with it.

Thanks, John Lynch

Re: Can the same part identifier occur more than once in partwise MusicXML?

Hi Phil, Thanks for the update on the multi-voice stuff. I'll have to take a close look at abcm2ps, since it seems to support the most typesetting features and is obviously in active development. I'd love to take a look at your code, but I don't think I'll be able to use it, since my translation rou...

Re: Can the same part identifier occur more than once in partwise MusicXML?

Hi Phil, Just so you know, I'm a few days away from releasing the first version of a freeware abc2xml translator, as well as an XSL script that does xml2abc as well. abc2xml is a Win32 executable at this point, but the code should be very portable. The XSL xml2abc script should of course work on any...

tuplets and divisions

Hello, I'm currently finishing up tuplet support and I'm wondering about the interaction of tuplets and the overall part <divisions> element. Since tuplets essentially change the time base, you can end up with non-integer duration values for notes if you try to use one default value for the <divisio...

"hidden" key sigs

Speaking of modes, I'm implementing "bagpipe" mode in the ABC translator. This basically means two things: all note stems are down (easy enough), and all C's and F's are sharps (basically A mix). The trick is that no key signature is displayed, and no accidentals are displayed. This is straightforwa...

Re: modes

I would think "ionian" and "aeolian" would be useful at least in academic use, so the more the merrier I say. Also, moving from folk to jazz, there are some other interesting modes that arise, though I don't know if entire tunes are ever written in them. I'm thinking of modes built on the melodic mi...

modes

Hello, I'm nearing completion on the first version of an ABC to MusicXML converter. Michael has been gracious in answering my questions along the way, but some of them seemed relevant to the larger list, so here goes: Is there support for modes besides major and minor in the MusicXML spec? Lots of f...
