Re: laissez vibrer ties

Hi Michael, In an earlier post on this subject, you recommended that laissez vibrer ties be represented with a Tied start and Tied stop on the same note. How does this recommendation allow one to distinguish between the following two "cases" of a laissez vibrer tie, which I would describe ...

laissez vibrer ties

Hi Michael, You recommend that laissez vibrer ties be represented with a Tied start and Tied stop on the same note. How then does one distinguish between a note that has a tie starting on it with no end note, and a note that has a tie ending on it with no start note? It seems much clearer if the not...

Finale problem importing MusicXML with TAB

Hi Michael, The latest version of Finale seems to have some difficulties importing the attached MusicXML file from the Lilypond Test Suite. The file contains TAB staves and notes, and Finale prints the note heads as MIDI Note Numbers instead of Fret Numbers, but only on some staves. On other staves,...

Re: cancel element

Hi Michael, I'd still like to clarify the issues: (1) Is it Finale's intent to never display cancellation naturals on the key signature in measures at the start of systems, even if the MusicXML it generates indicates a cancel element in those key signatures? (2) What would the expected (when fixed) ...

Re: cancel element

Thanks, Michael. If I un-check Display Courtesy Key Signature at End of Staff System, but check Cancel Outgoing Key Signature, what I notice is that cancellation naturals appear on all key signatures that you would expect, except if the measure is the start of a system. In that case, there are no ca...

Finale not displaying double flats in key signatures well

Hi Michael, Finale seems to have difficulty displaying the double flats that should be part of some of the key signatures in the attached MusicXML file from the Lilypond Test Suite. Finale does not seem to have any trouble with double sharps in key signatures, but the double flats are displaying as ...

Re: cancel element

Thanks, Michael. What I see is that the "Cancel Outgoing Key Signature" box is unchecked, but a change in key in mid-system from 3 sharps (F# minor) to 0 sharps (A minor) shows three canceling naturals in the first bar of A minor, and the cancel element is in the MusicXML export as well. I...

part-group documentation/implementation issues

Hi Michael, The documentation for part-group states that: "The part-group stop element appears after the last score-part in the group." It does not say, however, if the stop element is required. The documentation also states that: "A part-group element is not needed for a single multi...

cancel element

Hi Michael, Several questions about the <cancel> element, and how it is implemented in Finale: (1) How and under what circumstances does Finale generate a <cancel> element for a key signature? How can or does the user control this process in Finale? It appears that it is only generated when a key si...

Multiple Clefs on a Single Staff - Revisited

Hi Michael, A few years back we discussed the use cases for having more than one Clef declared on a staff. You pointed me to the Fig. 8 example of Debussy in the attached file. Could you please tell me how the measure in question, or something similar, would be represented in actual MusicXML? I'm no...
