Re: W3C Community Group Proposal

Further to Michael's message, I have posted a corresponding invitation to the members of the SMuFL community to share any questions, comments, or concerns they may have about this potential move on the SMuFL discussion list. You can read my post on the web here: http://smufl-discuss.50501.x6.nabble....

Re: 2014 MusicXML Community Meeting at Musikmesse

Thanks for sharing this report, Michael. I have posted a response to some of the issues raised in the meeting concerning SMuFL and MusicXML on the SMuFL web site here: http://www.smufl.org/smufl-and-musicxml/ I look forward to continuing the discussion both about SMuFL itself and how it might be int...

Re: MusicXML 3.0 symbols missing from SMuFL 0.4

I apologize for the delay on finishing and sending this. Here at last are the font symbols missing from SMuFL 0.4 that MusicXML 3.0 supports. Thanks for taking the time to do this. My comments inline below. Barlines: There are no equivalents for the MusicXML dotted, heavy, and heavy-heavy bar-style...

Re: Standard Music Font Layout initiative

Similarly, SMuFL could expand to include glyphs that MusicXML 3.0 supports but SMuFL 0.4 does not. Definitely: can you please let me know which kinds of glyphs MusicXML 3.0 supports that are not included in SMuFL to date? Thanks, Daniel - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ...

Re: Standard Music Font Layout initiative

I think SMuFL approach does the opposite, but then again I haven't looked at the details. So my apologies if I'm missing something. I'd be interested to know what you think once you've taken the time to inform your opinion, but there's no hurry. There isn't any intention that SMuFL should influence...

Re: Standard Music Font Layout initiative

All, I'm in full agreement with David, who summarises the same points I would myself make: there's really no alternative to using the Private Use Area. Although identified as a non-goal in the presentation I gave at the conference yesterday, I am not ruling out seeking ratification from the Unicode ...

Standard Music Font Layout initiative

Dear list members, Yesterday at the Music Encoding Conference in Mainz I announced an initiative I have been working on for the past few months as part of our work on a new scoring program for Steinberg. I am hoping to build a community of experts around the initiative, and so I would like to invite...

Re: Sibelius Standard SoundWorld (S3W) as a possible means of describing sounds in MusicXML 3.0

The information about solo vs. section is currently in the solo/ensemble elements within the score-instrument. In MusicXML 2.0, a switch between solo and tutti would involve a switch between instruments. So perhaps the solo and ensemble elements should be accessible in the sound element as well. Pe...

Re: Sibelius Standard SoundWorld (S3W) as a possible means of describing sounds in MusicXML 3.0

For me, the main question to be examined in SoundWorld is this: Should sound IDs really encode things like staccato, marcato, etc? For Sibelius's purposes, absolutely they should. This is because sounds in those playback devices (sample libraries et al) that S3W is designed to abstract away from ar...
