Re: GPO5 - Tell Me What you Want, What You Really Really Wan

I've been complaining about this for 10 years on the MM forum and it was suggested I have a go here: can we please have percussion instruments that can be heard? I have never been able to hear the triangle, jingle bells, or several other instruments. Percussion instruments, by their very nature, sho...

Re: GPO5 - Tell Me What you Want, What You Really Really Wan

Every now and then I get into a situation where I'd like to be able to tailor the string selections. For example, instead of 14 first violins, maybe I want 6 or 4. I know that the ensembles are composed of several individual recordings of different instruments and it would be so handy if we could se...

Re: GPO5 - Tell Me What you Want, What You Really Really Wan

Oh, and this is sort of off topic, but, please, please, pretty please, pressure MakeMusic to assign a developer for a day or two to fixing the percussion sound maps so that they are complete and accurate. The same company owns both products, so there is no excuse for this sorry state of affairs.

Re: GPO5 - Tell Me What you Want, What You Really Really Wan

It seems to me I get asked this every few years and my answer has always been the same: more string techniques. (I see from the above that many agree with me.) When I played violin I had (very thick) book with hundreds of bowing techniques, yet we are offered only a handful of them in sample librari...

Re: Percussion Maps

Thank you, Michael. It is discouraging to read that someone as experienced as you are can't figure it all out either. What on earth are the folks at MM thinking? Thanks for the layout of the JABB percussion, but I have the paper manual--which is a godsend. I wish the other libraries had as detailed ...

Percussion Maps

Where can I find sound and layout maps for all Garritan percussion libraries to be used in Finale? I am tired of endlessly searching through the pitiful few supplied by MakeMusic that are filled with errors and omissions. I would be willing to pay for a complete and accurate set. What I want: if I l...

Re: Using Garritan un-Pitched Percussion in Finale

I agree 100%. I get the impression that instruments and maps are named in a completely arbitrary way based on the mood of the developer at the time. The spelling errors that sometimes crop up don't help matters any. Whenever I've opened a support case regarding a specific instrument they say that it...

Using Garritan un-Pitched Percussion in Finale

The separation of "percussion sound maps" and "percussion layout maps" has been causing me grief ever since MakeMusic replaced its simple and intuitive interface with the complicated mess it now gives us. (Yes, I'm biased--I've been struggling with this for years.) For example, t...

Re: What would you like to see next Garritan product be?

STRINGS! They are the core of an orchestra and it's a bloody shame that Garritan doesn't offer more of the common techniques used in the modern orchestra. Genuine harmonics and col legno are essential. Sul ponitcello would be nice, as well as sul tasto and vibrato control. Go for it. Outdo VSL!

Re: Mixer - keep in position

You might want to consider putting your solo instrument into a different instance of the Aria player than your other instruments. That way you can modify the ambience settings, etc. to give it a sound distinct from the rest of the orchestra. I typically split the main orchestra choirs into separate ...
